Back by popular demand, we welcome Daniel Petre
Speaker : Daniel Petre
In September 2016 Daniel Petre solidified his status as the country's most influential investor when he was named as Australia’s most powerful player in the technology sector in the Australian Financial Review’s ‘Power Issue’ - A title well-earned if you take a glimpse at his resume…
During his career spanning over 30 years, Petre has acted as right-hand man to Bill Gates for the Microsoft Office in the US, as well as taking up the role of managing director of Microsoft Australia. His skills and talents saw him not only establish his own businesses and business models, but also invest into the wave of start-up technology companies through his various venture capital funds including most recently AirTree, which, since launching in 2014, has become Australia’s biggest ever tech venture capital fund - willing to slap $25 million on the table for a single start up.
With this kind of influence and success, Petre could almost be forgiven for becoming a stuffy suit, throwing his weight around the business community and pressuring his employees to get to the office early and leave late. But this image could not be further from the reality of Daniel Petre. Petre has a lot more interest in making a difference than making money.
His principles on healthy work/life balance earned him the nick-name ‘The 9-5 VP’ during his time at Microsoft for his refusal to let late meetings disrupt time with his family. Such were his convictions on the issue, he penned the book ‘Father Time’ highlighting the importance of balancing corporate life and fatherhood.
When it comes to wealth, Petre believes that eventually, enough has to be enough, and the importance of giving back through philanthropic work is the responsibility and duty of all of those who are in a position to give. Ask him about his greatest achievements? His wife and daughters will top every list.
Daniel is intelligent, generous, big-hearted and one of the bright lights in the Australian business community. We are so excited to be hosting Daniel as our November guest speaker for Pathfinders. We are honoured to welcome Daniel Petre as he shares the latest in the tech space globally as well as his profound insights and personal stories into the struggle of balancing family pressures with the stresses of corporate life. Plus, he will smash the idea that working overtime equals more success and productivity, a myth that has plagued white-collar industries for too long!
